REMINDER: You have been invited to happy hour tonight at the West End Pub in North PB.(on the corner of Turquoise and La Jolla Boulevard). This a low key gathering - drinks and games of pool (optional) with some of your neighbors. We will be there from 7 PM till 9 PM but don't sweat it if you can't make it right at 7 PM- come when you want and stay as long or as short as you want. It will likely be raining but don't let that dissuade you - grab an umbrella and join us. I don't know about you, but I had a really rough week and definitely need a drink or two. Hope to see you there.

THIS FRIDAY: Pool Sharks and Wannabes (happy hour)

Time for another "Pool Sharks and Wannbes" meetup as we continuation of our "tour of Pacific Beach dive bars" with our first visit to the "West End Pub" in North PB this Friday, December 6th at 7pm.  Nothing fancy - just a chance to meet some neighbors over a drink or two and games of pool. No need to be good at pool - this is just for fun and an excuse to get out out of the house on a winter evening to meet some friendly neighbors.

The West End is on the corner of Turquoise and La Jolla Boulevard-  it. does not have happy hour prices because (they tell me) their prices are low all the time: domestic drafts are $3.50 and well drinks are $4.50 - so if you are on a budget this shouldn't break the bank.  Admit it - you need a "bracer drink" before facing the holidays. This is a great way to unwind from the work week and launch your weekend so we hope to see you there!

Re: Confirming Account

Well, since everyone is greeting Ben and Sue I guess I should too - welcome to the neighborhood guys!

Our most recent event was a happy hour / games of pool at the Silver Fox the week before last.  I'd like to keep these going this winter with a "tour of beach area dive bars" maybe starting next Friday if anyone is up for it.   Since we have been to the Silver Fox a few times, I was thinking maybe that "Latitude" place on Cass Street - or maybe the West End.  The list of possibilities is long so let me know if you have any preferences.

A few other things are in the works - plus feel free to plan or propose your own events / activities / gatherings - whatever.   Hope everyone is having a nice Friday.

Re: Confirming Account

Hi Ben - welcome to San Diego,

Feel free to use this list to plan or propose any social activities - even small ones. Messages you post here go directly to about 140 of your neighbors without being filtered by any social network and has been gaining a few new members every week. We have divided this into seven "subgroups" that I have pasted below. The only ones that I have been organizing events for and the only ones currently active are the "PB40 Bike Club" and "Pool Sharks and Wannabes" - plus I am going to try to get the "PB Bookworms Club" going again - we had a meeting this summer but almost everyone bailed at the last minute and only one other person showed.

Any member can join any of these groups, and messages posted there will "pass through" to the main PB40 list unless they are blocked by a member not interested in that activity. So for example, someone who doesn't drink may not want to see messages from the "I'll Drink to That" group can easily block that topic without affecting their participation in other groups. That means that people can feel comfortable posting here because no one should be getting unwanted messages - it is under their control.

I see that you are the only one other than me who has joined the "foodies" group even though I am sure there are others here with an interest in "Food, Cooking and Dining" - who isn't? - so feel free to use that list to to post ideas, suggestions, requests for recommendations - anything about food in this neighborhood.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Rob

Re: Date wrong?

Hi Dave, I didn't look at your attachment but it appears you have set your delivery to be a daily "archive" - one message that compiles all the messages for that day,  I sent my first message about this out on Tuesday evening, and then a last-minute one a few hours before the event, so you probably never saw that one until the archive was compiled at midnight.

We had a nice time - because of the short notice just a few showed up from that message, but a number of the Silver Fox regulars seemed to know about us and a few even seemed to have been inspired to go that night after seeing one of our posts.   TIt was fun mixing it up with the different groups over the course of the night so I stayed later than I had planned - also drank a bit more than I had planned but fortunately my hangover seems to be dissipating.

We will plan more of these - maybe check out some other bars in PB or MB.  Probably 6 pm was too early so will probably do one later next time.   Feel free to use this list to plan or suggest your own events also.   Gatherings like this don't need to be huge to be successful - getting a few friends out and meeting some new folks scores as a win to me.   Hope to catch you at the next one.

Date wrong?

Hi,

I received the attached Email invite on the 9th, and the event was on the 8th.  Do you know if that happened to anyone else, or how I can correct that?

Thanks,

Looking for a nice way to start your weekend?  This is a reminder that you have been invited to "PB Pool Sharks and Wannabes" tonight at the Silver Fox Lounge on Garnet at 6 PM - a few hours from now.  We had fun when we did this last winter so thought we would give it another shot.   No big deal - just some games of pool and a drink or two while meeting some neighbor.  No need to be good at pool and its fine even if you have never played the game.  The better players at this will be happy to give tips to anyone who wants them.   Hope to see you there - we will be in the back near the pool tables.

Rob

p;s;  If you can't make it tonight please make sure you have joined our "PB40 Pool Sharks and Wannabes" list at this link: https://pb40.groups.io/g/pool  .

Re: Know anyone looking for an apartment to rent in PB? (off topic)

Hi Marie,

Nice to hear from you.  Your friend sounds nice and is welcome to apply as well.   I am hoping to limit this to a half dozen or so applications so everyone has at least some chance.  Have her contact me if she is interested in seeing it.

Happy Friday everyone!   Sorry for the off-topic message but there is a nice one-bedroom apartment for rent where I live and the owners have asked me to find good rental candidates.  It's in a small complex on Oliver Avenue a block from the bay and about six blocks from the ocean.  The rent is $1325 / mo with a $700 deposit.   There is one off-street parking space and on-site (free) laundry.  Since the rental market is so awful (a one percent vacancy rate) I will get bombarded if I post this on social media, so I thought I would try here first.  Please let me know if you know of anyone who might be interested.

Thank you, and have a great weekend.

Hi Jenni,

The apartment is available right now and your friend fits the profile of what the owners are looking for almost exactly.  They want me to get at least three or four applications but at the moment I have just one.  I am by nature inclusive so I hate having to rent these units because I have to say "no" to nice people who need a place to live desperately.  Have your friend call, text or email me if she wants to see it.  I am somewhat busy tomorrow but should be around all day Sunday.   Contact me by private message if you have any questions so we don't bug everyone on the list.

Hi Rob:

I actually have a friend who is looking for something like that! She's single, in her 50's,non smoking, and no pets. Steady employment. I work with her at Alaska and I would think from the bit that I know of her that she keeps pretty quiet and easy to deal with as a tenant. Do you know when the unit would be available?
