Know anyone looking for an apartment to rent in PB? (off topic)

Happy Friday everyone!   Sorry for the off-topic message but there is a nice one-bedroom apartment for rent where I live and the owners have asked me to find good rental candidates.  It's in a small complex on Oliver Avenue a block from the bay and about six blocks from the ocean.  The rent is $1325 / mo with a $700 deposit.   There is one off-street parking space and on-site (free) laundry.  Since the rental market is so awful (a one percent vacancy rate) I will get bombarded if I post this on social media, so I thought I would try here first.  Please let me know if you know of anyone who might be interested.

Thank you, and have a great weekend.

Rob

Re: THIS SUNDAY: Another Free "Concert on the Green" at Kate Sessions Park

 Hi everyone,

Quick reminder that he third of the four "Concerts on the Green" series is today starting at 4pm at Kate Sessions Park: less than an hour from now. The local band "Siers Brothers" will be playing from 4 PM to 6:30 PM with a "mix of rock and roll, reggae, country and blues".    We had just a few people say they are coming from here and Meetup but I'm going and will be leaving my house shortly.

This is super casual - just bring a blanket or some beach chairs and listen to some music. If you have never be been to Kate Sessions Park the view is really amazing - worth checking out for that alone. Please reply on this thread with your location if you want to hook up or send a text message to my phone number.

Hope to see a few of you there but either way have a great Sunday afternoon.

Rob

Re: THIS SUNDAY: Another Free "Concert on the Green" at Kate Sessions Park

Well dagnabbit Deb - sorry you can't make it - that was fun last time.

I think we have two people so far for Sunday so that is a start.  It turns out my friend from Ocean Beach who I was going to visit instead was actually there at the concert.  He mentioned something I noticed as well - that the crowd was fairly sparse.  I thought maybe a few hundred people at most.  It was still fun but when I went a few years ago it was packed and the turnout would likely have been bigger in most other San Diego neighborhoods.  Not sure why that would be - maybe Kate Sessions is just hard to get to?  The band playing this Sunday has a big following so there should be a bigger crowd and even if people don't come though this invitation I hope people will support events like this.  This one is put on by the Pacific Beach Town Council and we want them to keep doing it :-)

Hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start.

Be sure to bring a blanket or some beach chairs and your refreshments of choice - Kate Sessions is one of the few parks in San Diego where alcohol is legal as long as it is in unbreakable containers. Great music, a stunning view and friendly neighbors - what's to lose? Hope so see some of you there.

Hi Bob and TK  - nice to hear from you guys.  We have organized some bike rides and will be doing more.  Feel free to propose a time if you want to get one going - for bike rides you don't have to have a ton of people to have a nice time.  Hope you can make the concert next Sunday at 4pm - I will announce shortly.

Hi Tina - let's do it then!  See you next Sunday

I'm here - Deb Watson is on her way.  Parking is rough but there's still time if anybody wants to cruise by. Kid goes till 6:30 pm. The band actually sounds pretty good.

Hi Deb - nice to hear from you.  There is no "everyone" - you are the only one who responded - maybe sending the message out late Friday was too late, or maybe everyone had other plans.  I was just now mulling whether to send a cancellation message or simply "do nothing" and maybe go visit a friend in a different neighborhood who mentioned something about drinks at his place.

I will still go with one firm RSVP - from anyone - this list has about 150 of our neighbors - no pressure at all on you if you were expecting a bigger group.  Another possibility is to hook up with this meetup https://www.meetup.com/PB-Locals/events/263349567/  -  I have been to one of their events - nice folks - I have been to one of their events and it looks like there are five of them.   So I need to decide in the next half hour or so - go anyway or head over to my friends house in OB for drinks, and try again next week when the Seirs brothers will be playing - a possibly more popular band.

I don't feel like being a "leader" today so if someone out there wants to help out and "take charge" be my guest  - I have a half hour or so before I have to leave to get there by 4pm but being a bit late wouldn't be a disaster.   Anyone getting this message is welcome to weigh in.   Whatever happens hope you are having a nice Sunday :-)

Schedule for "Concerts on the Green" at Kate Sessions Park

The first of a series of concerts sponsored by the Pacific Beach Town Council starts tonight. We really had lots of fun when we organized meetups at this last year so I wanted to make sure everyone knows about this. These are a super chill way to spend a summer Sunday afternoons not to mention that they are low cost - actually free. Kate Sessions is one of the few parks where alcohol is legal - or at least tolerated, so you can bring wine or beer in nonbreakable containers, and if you have never been there the views are stunning. I am not sure if I am going to this one tonight because of a prior commitment, but I will definitely be going next week. Let us know if you would like to go to this or future concerts and would like to meet up with others at this community event.

TONIGHT Reggae Night at Open Bar #drinks #music

Quick reminder that this is Reggae night at the Open Bar and I am going to check it out.   There is a small meetup group going called "PB Semi-Professionals" I am going to try to hook up with.  They are started at 6:30 pm - just 5 minutes from now but plan to stay for several hours. I will be headed down there in about an hour at 7:30 pm or so if anyone cares to join me.  Here is the meetup link: https://www.meetup.com/PB-semi-professionals/events/262737581/

Also, this is more business than social but there is a group for remote workers that is somewhat similar to my self-employed group.  They meet in different parts of town to help remote workers meet get together but the last few times have been in Pacific Beach.  Tomorrow they will be at Second Nature Cafe on Cass Street from 1 pm till 4 pm for anyone who works out of their home and wants to get out and meet people.  I will likely be there at 1:30 pm or so.

Aren't I being quite the social butterfly lately!

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start.

Rob

PB Bookworms Meeting tonight - check this out! #books

Hi everyone - quick reminder that the new "PB Bookworms Club" will be meeting at 7 PM tonight at Cafe Europa, 873 Turquoise St., North Pacific Beach, CA 92109 - hope some of you can make it.

I have already sent a reminder though so this message is really just to tell you about this great deal I just found on their website that I didn't know existed. Just for signing up for their mailing list - which I don't mind being on anyway - they send you a $20 discount code. Here is the link: https://theturquoise.com/join-rewards-member/

That applies to beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks - plus a great bar menu. Here is the menu and the page where you can order online from your smart phone: https://theturquoise.com/food/

That means, unless I am reading something wrong, that you could get away without spending any money at all tonight - depending on what you order of course. No excuses now - try to make it if you can. I will be there a bit before 7 pm to try to claim a good place on the patio - like these cushy couches shown in this picture I snapped at the happy hour we organized there last Summer.

THIS THURSDAY: PB Bookworms Club Meeting at Club Europa

Hi Everyone - I posted about this last week but I wanted to remind everyone that we will be be having an informal "book club" meeting at Cafe Europa this coming Thursday at 7 pm and all are welcome. This is intended to be a low key gathering to talk about books we like.   That's it - you  don't have to be a super nerd or anything - and even if you are not a huge reader feel free to swing by for a glass of wine or a cup of tea to talk about you favorite books - and maybe get some ideas from other neighbors for books you can read in the future.

Cafe Europa at 873 Turquoise Street in PB and we will be meeting in the patio area. This is a "tapas" bar where you order from your phone so there is no bill to settle.  Everyone enjoyed this venue at a happy hour @Ann Marie Marie Groffner organized  last September so if you have never been there you might want to check it out.

Time to start thinking about your summer reading list.   Hope to see some of you there.

Concert tonight by "Kissed Alive" - a Kiss tribute band, at Campland by the Bay.   This is impromptu - but we are trying to arrange a bike caravan over there - partly because it is free for walk-ins and getting there by car could be a hassle.  Current plans are to leave from Fanuel Park at 7:30 PM for the short ride to Campland.  It should still be partly light then, but this is a night ride so bring your bike light.  If you don't have one, I have an extra - and you could probably get away without on at least on the bay side part of the ride.

Seems like an interesting way to start the long weekend - why not come check it out with us.   Special thanks to Josie Sarullo for coming up with this fun idea.   Plans are still fluid at this point so check this thread for updates.

P.S.  Because of the short notice, this is being sent as a "special notice" which may bypass some of your deliver option settings - especially if your are receiving a daily archive - we won't do this very often.
