Hey Rob!

I really enjoy the Sunday rides. My Sunday mornings have been pretty filled up with other activities...

Rob. I had my son this weekend and for reference I won't be available until after a big trade show I'm doing next week. Likely I won't be able to take another ride until after Thanksgiving but I'll be following along and looking forward to more...

@Deb Watson That would be great Deb - it would be nice to see you again

@Val Turner  I didn't mean for this message to seem like I am throwing in the towel.  It was actually a really nice ride - and one of the most interesting conversations I have had in a long time.  No one can go every week but we have enough support from you and others to keep this going for a while.  I think you might have seen that Nextdoor post where several people were saying they wanted to go but couldn't make it this week.

We could change the time I suppose - I still have to figure out what just happened with daylight savings time going away.

p.s. Who was it that knew about the Rose Creek trail - that it was blocked or something?  If anyone has any interesting route ideas let us know.

PB Farmers Market Halloween Spooktacular

This looks nice.  is going on right now, until 7pm tonight.  I like the Farmers Market anyway so seeing the costumes would probably be entertaining.  I am working on a deadline project so can't arrange to meet anyone  but will likely walk down there a bit later to get away from this screen.  Hope everyone's week has gotten off to a good start.

Re: Exercise bike ride to La Jolla Cove (second attempt)

A few of our regulars bailed at the last minute, but we had an enjoyable bike ride today.  I got to meet some really nice neighbors: Kelly and Greg, who live right near me and Val (another one) who lives nearer the beach.  While there was some huffing and puffing on the hills  - both on the way and on the way back - we successfully made it all the way to La Jolla Cove.

bike la jolla 1.jpg

Kelly and Val stopped to look at the sea lions.  I was struck by how huge they were.

bike la jolla 2.jpg

That's about it - nothing fancy, just a plain vanilla bike ride - but got some exercise and fresh air and it is always fun to meet nice new people.  As promised, everyone got back safely with the lion's share of their Sunday afternoon left.

As I mentioned to a few people, I am not going to commit to organizing these rides every Sunday but I really enjoy them so will try.  For the next few weeks I am going to be "off the social radar" though.  I am working on a small business development proposal for the City of San Diego that I am really excited about, and I stumbled, almost by accident, into a huge environmental and housing program run by the State and am working on a community building project for them - similar to what I have tried to do with the PB over 40.

I'll let everyone know by Wednesday or Thursday if I can get one together for next week.  If you haven't been on a ride with us yet consider joining us sometime.   Hope everyone else is having a fantastic Sunday.

Rob

p.s. I am thinking of starting to gently encourage the use of helmets on these rides.  I am the worst culprit - I almost never wear a helmet but am thinking maybe I have dodged the bullet by not wearing one for so many years.  We do get on busy streets on these rides sometimes and it would be awful if someone got hurt on a ride we are doing for fun.  They're not too expensive - I bought a fairly nice new one at Play it Again Sports for only $20.

Plans are to leave Fanuel Park at 11am and take the inland route to the Cove and then back to PB by the coastal route.   Socially paced, but there ls a long but gently sloping hill up Fanuel to get to near where the inland bike path starts near Cass and Turquoise and we will take that real slow.  Anyone in North PB who wants to join us could wait at that cross street.

I am no longer discouraging beach cruisers - the riders with them did just fine last week and I was the one huffing and puffing.  Ride should be about two hours and there are no plans to stop for lunch - so you should have the lion's share of of your Sunday afternoon left by the time we get back. Hi bike people -

All systems go for tomorrow's ride - leaving 11am from Fanuel Park - it is forecast to be a gorgeous day - cool and perfect for a bike ride.

@Jay Glicksman  and @Marie Lapointe  - sorry you can't make it this time but have a great Sunday.  I may not organize these every week but I will try do them as often as I can.  Catch you on a future ride.

@Val Turner That's great - it will be nice to meet your husband and I am sure he will enjoy the ride.

@Peter Scheir Ok, I will try to text you before the ride provided I don't sleep in too late.

@Kelly Laird.  Fantastic!  Looking forward to meeting you guys.

Not too late at all if anyone else wants to join us.  Should be a nice ride.

Rob

I am planning an exercise bike ride to La Jolla Cove this Sunday as a rain check for the one I missed because of a tire blow out. We ended the jinx we had of "one flat tire every ride" on our ride last week to OB so I would like to try again.

Hope at least a few of you can join us.

Exercise bike ride to La Jolla Cove (second attempt)

Kelly Laird

My husband and I have been trying to make it to one of your events. We both can make it this Sunday so we plan on being there.

Marie Lapointe

I can’t make it either. I’m taking a class :)

Thanks, I'm interested but again can't committ. Don't hesitate to text me Sunday around 10 if you think of it... was fun last time - though I might stop again at that lovely little cafe near the cove for coffee and brunch!
